“Kolai” is based on a dark mystery narrative with a retro execution, providing a unique vantage point for a murder mystery. The director creates mysterious characters and motives around the death of the lead actress. However, the film loses its grip due to the slow story and old cinematography.
Vijay Anthony’s character is fascinating, but his methodical investigation can test the patience. Ritika works within her limits and plays the suspicious character well. Still, unnecessary subplots and distractions hinder the overall drama. Despite a good story, the execution feels clumsy and dated. Well worth a visit for vintage thrill seekers.
